  44. SOLAR PROTON ENHANCEMENT ALERT ISSUED AT 03:30 UTC ON 16 SEP:

  46.         Protons at greater than 10 MeV became enhanced near 02:00 UTC on 16
  47.    September and are continuing to slowly rise.  At the present time, protons
  48.    at greater than 10 MeV are near 2 pfu.  It is unlikely that the current
  49.    enhancement will actually reach event levels of 10 pfu, although there is
  50.    an remote chance this might happen.

  52.         The source of this activity is unknown, but most likely can be
  53.    attributed to a solar region which departed the west limb several days
  54.    ago.  No x-ray enhancements of significance preceded this activity,
  55.    supporting the notion that the source region might be some distance
  56.    behind the west limb occulting the x-rays.
